PrEParing Your Community: A Toolkit for HIV Education and Risk Reduction

This toolkit provides a framework for religious leaders to use when designing interventions to increase HIV education and risk reduction. The goal of this toolkit is to help faith leaders protect the health and wellness of their communities by reducing their congregations’ risk of becoming HIV-positive.

Specifically, it is to ensure that the faith leaders know about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). PrEP is the use of antiretroviral (ARVs) drugs by people who are HIV-negative in order to reduce their risk of becoming HIV-positive.

The toolkit was developed with the help of faith leaders, and includes the following modules:

  1. Teach yourself about HIV, risk reduction, and PrEP
  2. 5 Conversations Healthy Communities Should Have
  3. Engaging different audiences/settings: women, youth, men, young couples

Also included, for each module, are activity kits including tools and materials to facilitate the workshops, including handouts with important HIV information, scenario cards that can be used in drama and role-plays, illustrations, and other material.
