Family Planning Social Norms Taxonomy for East Africa

Serving as an analytical framework for public health practitioners, this technical resource maps out the complex social norms surrounding family planning across ten East African nations. The classification system synthesizes evidence from an extensive regional literature review covering countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It organizes identified normative drivers into five overarching categories and various detailed subcategories to aid behavioral diagnostic mapping. Program managers and researchers can utilize this taxonomy to design targeted interventions, guide formative research, and systematically address deeply rooted community norms.
