Prevention against Emerging Infectious Diseases: An opportunity for Inclusive Health

The resource is a comprehensive report by Handicap International – Humanity & Inclusion (HI) on their intervention in Somalia/Somaliland to promote the inclusion and rights of persons with disabilities, focusing on their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It outlines a study conducted in collaboration with WHO to understand the perceptions and barriers to COVID-19 vaccination among persons with disabilities in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. The study employed a mixed-methods approach using WHO’s behavioral and social drivers (BeSD) tools and provided both quantitative and qualitative data on the factors influencing vaccination. Key findings highlight the association of age, gender, and disability type with perceptions and motivations for vaccination, leading to recommendations for enhancing inclusive health services and advocating for better access and participation for persons with disabilities.
