A Guide for Developing Family Planning Messages for Women in the First Year Postpartum
This guide was written to help program managers create postpartum family planning (PPFP) messages to be used in family planning, maternal, newborn, child and other health programs. The Guide includes eight key PPFP behaviors for postpartum women, their families and communities to prevent unplanned pregnancies during the first year after a birth.
The content is based on findings from the most recent PPFP research; discussions with PPFP experts, program managers and workers; and field experiences from ACCESS-FP country programs. Using the Guide will help to ensure that the content of messages is correct and consistent.
The following are the sections of the guide:
- Introduction to Postpartum Family Planning
- What is PPFP?
- Why is there a new focus on PPFP?
- What are the unique needs of postpartum women?
