Desarrollando Competencias en Comunicacion Interpersonal y Relaciones Interculturales [Developing Competencies in Interpersonal Communication and Cross-Cultural Relations]
A facilitator’s guide to accompany the workshop, “Developing Competencies in Interpersonal Communication and Cross-Cultural Relations in Maternal and Neonatal Health.” This manual provides core principles and techniques for facilitators working to develop interpersonal communication skills among health care providers. The manual uses adult education methods and takes a group participatory approach to teaching interpersonal and cross-cultural competencies. The workshop is designed to take three days and covers: building the client-provider relationship, finding similarities amidst differences, understanding the concept of otherness, clarifying doubts and myths, verbal and nonverbal communication, attentive listening, use of communication materials, strategic planning, and role playing. There is a section for facilitators on adult learning and on workshop planning. There are worksheets, pre-tests, and videos to assist in the learning process.
