Live and Love (Uishe na Upende): Radio spots

This is a 20-minute weekly radio magazine program produced in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by Search for Common Ground (SFCG). The program is in Swahili and geared to youth between ages 15 and 25. Topics include sexuality, gender, prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, and how to have safe, loving relationships.

A series of 60-second radio spots produced by SFCG for C-Change were inserted into this program. The spots were produced in five national languages (French, Lingala, Kikongo, Swahili, and Tshiluba) and also distributed to SFCG’s 84 partner radio stations as stand-alone messages. The messages in the spots addressed HIV prevention through responsible sexual practices, the need for parent-youth discussions to promote responsible sexuality, information on how the virus is transmitted and treatment, and the importance of testing one’s HIV status. These messages were developed by SFCG and approved by C-Change. Radio spots aired in the DRC in five languages on HIV and AIDS, HIV prevention, and living with HIV-positive people.
