Radio Training Course [DRC]

This training course, developed for a project in the DRC, teaches participants about developing objectives for a program, writing for radio programs, interview techniques, reporting on an event, and how to collect ‘vox pops’.

Some popular formats for radio programs in the DRC are talk shows, ‘magazines’ (a program addressing several different subjects) and round table discussions. The project which developed this course also trains journalists in the development of these formats, as they are a particularly useful way of getting people engaged with the material that is being broadcast.

The training course addresses fundamental principles of journalism and the ethics of the profession – ensuring that information is exact and correct, being impartial and taking responsibility for what is produced. The ethics of radio journalism are particularly important, with participants encouraged to think about what code of ethics they use, what problems can arise during the production of programs and how to ensure that they adhere to a high ethical standard.
