Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
This website offers detailed US health behavior data that can be used to inform program design. Until 2013, the data was collected by telephone interview. More than 500,000 interviews were conducted in 2011, making the BRFSS the largest telephone survey in the world. For a selection of health areas, Information is taken on age, gender, and race/ethnicity, and demographic variables such as education attainment, marital status, tenure (property ownership), and telephone ownership. The health areas covered are: alcohol consumption, cholesterol awareness, chronic health indicators, disability, exercise, health care, health status, hypertension awareness, immunization, injury, obesity, physical activity, and tobacco use.
