Healthy Living Champions Award Program [Strategy Document]
This is a design / strategy document for an elementary-school-based program in Ontario, Canada promoting healthy living. The document describes every step of the planning, implementation, and evaluation process for this project. The goals of the project were:
- To increase staff and student awareness of the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, safety, and oral health in all schools in the region
- To increase staff and student knowledge of how to engage in healthy eating, regular physical activity, safety practices, and oral health in all schools in the region
- To have 50% of schools in the region actively working to establish a school environment that more effectively supports healthy eating and active living
- To have 15% of schools in the region increase or improve their policies/guidelines related to nutrition, physical activity, safety, and oral health
The Healthy Living Champions Award is given to elementary schools in Middlesex-London for their outstanding commitment to physical activity and healthy eating using the Foundations for a Healthy School Model. The Award is sponsored by London Life, Thames Valley District School Board, London District Catholic School Board and the Middlesex-London Health Unit.
This strategy is a good example of the use of the Online Health Program Planner offered by the Ontario Public Health system.
