Chumo [Feature Film]
As part of a comprehensive strategy for behavior change and communication in the prevention and case management of malaria in mainland Tanzania, the COMMIT project produced the feature film “Chumo” {“The Bride’s Price”), a love story set on the Swahili Coast that subtly yet effectively educates viewers on the dangers of malaria in pregnancy and how to prevent it. “Chumo” follows the story of Juma, Amina and Yustus as they make choices and sacrifices, with unforeseen consequences. All have their wishes and dreams in an intriguing story of love, ambition, determination and malaria. The film has won several awards at film festivals worldwide, and was distributed throughout Tanzania via COMMIT’s network of mobile video units and through other national distribution channels.
