Health for the People: National Community Health Worker Programs from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe

This resource is a collection of community health worker program data from 29 countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The compilation of country case studies serves as an informative guide for the development and strengthening of CHW programs. The case studies all follow the same format, making it possible to compare similar dimensions from program to program.

Making Progress in Prevention Possible – A monitoring framework for the prevention of violence against women and girls in the Asia-Pacific region

Using quality data to monitor prevention supports a more precise tracking of change toward the long-term goal of eliminating violence against women and girls (VAWG) and increases accountability and shared approaches in national and regional prevention interventions. This document, developed by UN Women and The Equality Institute, responds to the need for a prevention monitoring framework contextualized to the Asia-Pacific region using an intersectional and whole-of-population approach. The purpose of this monitoring framework is to guide policymakers and practitioners through the key components for building a prevention framework that is contextually relevant to countries in the Asia-Pacific region, and to illustrate how to measure change in the short, medium, and long term.

Achieving malaria elimination through public-private-philanthropic partnerships

Adolescent School Health Booklet

The Liberia Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and partners developed this booklet with support from Breakthrough ACTION Liberia. This booklet is intended to be used during health club sessions in Liberian schools to increase adolescent knowledge of their sexual and reproductive health issues. This booklet focuses on empowering adolescents to increase their knowledge in providing education related to their sexual and reproductive health issues covering topics that include: puberty, family planning, self-esteem and other relevant topics to guide them make informed decisions as they grow into responsible and healthy adults who will meaningfully contribute to the growth and development of Liberia.

Malaria Behavior Survey (MBS) Dashboard

The MBS Dashboard presents cross-sectional data collected from individuals and households in sub-Saharan African countries. This interactive dashboard allows users to explore MBS data on a single easy-to-explore platform. Currently, the dashboard includes data from eight countries in English and French with a Portuguese version in development. Breakthrough ACTION plans to add other countries as data points become available.

Integrating Psychosocial Interventions and Support into HIV Services for Adolescents and Young Adults

This technical brief seeks to establish the importance of implementing psychosocial interventions to optimize HIV outcomes and support mental health for adolescents and young people living with HIV; to provide evidence included in the recent WHO guidelines to educate on how this can and has been done; and to chart a way forward for the integration of mental health and HIV services for this population. It provides approaches and examples of integration of interventions within health services. This brief also aims to identify emerging best practices and strategic actions to ensure that sustained investments in the health and well-being of this important demographic group can be realized at a pivotal global moment.

Lessons from Partnering with Faith-Based Organizations in Very Young Adolescent Programming

This brief explores the potential of faith-based organizations to meaningfully address harmful gender and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) attitudes, behaviors, and norms among very young adolescents (VYAs), their families, and communities in Bangladesh. Most gender and SRH interventions tend to focus on older adolescents (15-19 years) and adults, neglecting VYA populations. Through this activity, MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership sought to strengthen local partner capacity to apply effective programming addressing gender and SRH challenges facing VYAs.

Trends in maternal mortality 2000 to 2020: estimates by WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, World Bank Group, and UNDESA/Population Division

This report presents internationally comparable global, regional, and country-level estimates and trends for maternal mortality between 2000 and 2020.

The United Nations Maternal Mortality Estimation Inter-Agency Group (MMEIG) – comprising WHO, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Bank Group and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division (UNDESA/Population Division) has collaborated with external technical experts on a new round of estimates covering 2000 to 2020. The estimates represent the most up-to-date, internationally-comparable MMEIG estimates of maternal mortality, using refined input data and methods from previous rounds.
