Post Pregnancy Family Planning: Strengthening Family Planning Services in the Private Sector
This brochure describes the efforts to strengthen the private health sector to support post pregnancy family planning initiatives in Lagos State, Nigeria. Post pregnancy is defined as the prevention of unplanned pregnancies during the 12-month period following delivery or miscarriage. This is part of the Post Pregnancy Family Planning Project in Nigeria.
The private sector is the preferred choice for 65% of women and families in Lagos State.
The project seeks to take advantage of this large audience of women and families using private sector health facilities to encourage the facilities to introduce family planning, answer questions, build intention to use, and provide them with their method of choice.
The booklet describes quality improvement measures, access to commodities, clinic “makeovers”, and describes the results of the project. It also explains how to generate demand for post-pregnancy family planning among private sector clients.
