Feeding the Fussy Eater

Alive & Thrive is an initiative in Vietnam aimed at improving infant and young child feeding by increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improving complementary feeding practices

The fussy eater leaflet gives tips on how to prevent fussy eating and ways of dealing with the child who shows little interest in eating. It identifies signs of fussy eating and provides tips for Vietnamese mothers on the feeding environment, food selection and preparation, and feeding methods to prevent fussy eating.

Guidelines for Conducting IYCF Counseling Sessions in Health Facilities

Alive & Thrive is an initiative in Vietnam aimed at improving infant and young child feeding by increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improving complementary feeding practices. The guidelines in this document were developed to help counselors conduct individual counseling sessions, facilitate group discussions, and provide mothers instructions on infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices easily and effectively. The guidelines give specific instructions on what to do, how to do it, and which tools to use so that counselors can facilitate a counseling session in a spontaneous and easy manner. Included are: 8 topics for IYCF group sessions 1 guideline for individual IYCF counseling 1 guideline for supporting a new mother to breastfeed during the first days after giving birth at health facilities with delivery services

Infant and Young Child Feeding

Alive & Thrive is an initiative in Vietnam aimed at improving infant and young child feeding by increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improving complementary feeding practices.

Four leaflets are provided to mothers and other caregivers at health facilities and community events.

  • Leaflet 1: Exclusive breastfeeding
  • Leaflet 2: Breastfeeding techniques including breastmilk expression
  • Leaflet 3: Timing of introduction of complementary foods and appropriate quantities
  • Leaflet 4: Complementary feeding instructions, including hygiene

Invitation to Counseling Sessions on Infant and Young Child Feeding

Alive & Thrive is an initiative in Vietnam aimed at improving infant and young child feeding by increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improving complementary feeding practices.

This cards invite mothers and other caregivers to attend counseling sessions at Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) centers in Viet Nam. Two cards are invitations for sessions on exclusive breastfeeding and two are on complementary feeding.

Power of Nutrition

Alive & Thrive is an initiative in Vietnam aimed at improving infant and young child feeding by increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improving complementary feeding practices.

A series of seven posters were placed in health facilities to reinforce messages received during counseling. They focus on no water in the first six months, exclusive breastfeeding, frequent breastfeeds, timely introduction of complementary foods, feeding iron-rich foods, and the critical 1,000 day window for brain growth and physical development.

This poster Identifies actions during pregnancy and the first 2 years to improve nutrition and the impact on child health, education, and economic development.

Breastfeeding Posters

Alive & Thrive is an initiative in Vietnam aimed at improving infant and young child feeding by increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improving complementary feeding practices.

This set of three posters reinforce messages about frequent breastfeeds, exclusive breastfeeding, and no water. They were placed in health facilities in Vietnam.

The poster taglines are as follows:

  • The more I breastfeed, the more milk my mommy will make for me!
  • Mommy, your milk gives me all the nutrients I need for my first six months!
  • I don’t need to drink any water – my mommy’s milk gives me all the water I need!
