Malaria-themed Radio Magazine Program

This 13-episode Nigerian reality radio program incorporates different interactive elements, such as interviews, discussions, vox pop, testimonials and expert opinions to engage audiences on malaria-related topics. The English version is titled Play Your Part while the Hausa version is titled Taka Naka Rawan.

Each episode lasts 15 minutes and the program is broadcast in English and Hausa. Between 2015 and 2017 the show was broadcast weekly in five stations across five states -Akwa Ibom, Kebbi, Benue, Nasarawa & Zamfara.

Malaria Provider Behavior Campaign Job Aid

These are counseling and point of care materials developed for health facility providers and Proprietary Patent Medicine Vendors (PPMV) on adherence to Rapid Diagnotic Test (RDT) for malaria results. These are focused on resolving common misconceptions and issues encountered by providers, with the goal of building their confidence in the tests and in their ability to manage logistical, interpersonal and technical issues. The materials are:

  1. Job Aid for Children with Fever
  2. RDT Reminder Danglers
  3. RDT Reminder Posters

They were distributed in Akwa Ibom, Kebbi & Benue among Health Facility Providers and PPMVs, and were distributed to about 210 health facilities and PPMV shops actoss the three states.

Malaria Health Facility Posters

These serves a dual purpose of job aids for service providers and reminder materials for clients. It has uniform messages per thematic area but are state-specific with images that resonates with cultural and religious leanings in by state.

The thematic categories covered are:

  1. MALARIA IN PREGNANCY – Job aid and reminder tips on ANC registration, LLIN use and care, IPT Information and appropriate IPT administration to pregnant women
  1. ANC/IPT – A reminder material for Clients to register early for ANC and take at least 3 doses of IPT during every pregnancy
  1. MALARIA PREVENTION – A reminder material for Clients on the three steps to malaria prevention; sleeping inside LLIN every night all rea round, treating confirmed cases of malaria with only ACTs and attending ANC and taking at least 3 doses of IPT during every pregnancy
  1. ACT – A reminder material for both Clients and Service Providers to always treat every confirmed case of malaria with only ACTs
  1. RDT – A material targeted at Caregivers to know that “Not Every Fever is Malaria” and RDT test can confirm if it is malaria or not under 10-15 minutes.

The posters were used in Nasarawa, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Kebbi & Zamfara between 2015-2017, and were produced in English and Hausa. Approximately 313 health facilities received posters to use within the clinics.

Malaria-Focused Video Clips for Community Dialogue

These are adapted malaria-focused storylines from a TV serial drama (New Man Street). Screened during community dialogues to an average audience of about 60 persons per session. They were screened 1,277 times to about 74,111 persons. The videos were produced in English and Hausa and were shown in Nasarawa, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Kebbi & Zamfara states.

LLIN Campaign Radio Spots

Demand generation spots for LLIN replacement campaigns. These spots are specific for pre-, during & post-campaigns awareness and adherence to net use. The state-specific spots are used to announce details of the campaign and solicit the support of the general public for the campaign activities. These also includes net ambassador spots, usually the wife of the state Governor or traditional rulers.

The spots were broadcast in: Zamfara, Benue, Oyo, Kogi, Sokoto, Kebbi, Nasarawa and in the following languages: English, Hausa, Okun, Igbira, Igala, Yoruba

Health Facility Posters – Family Planning

These posters, produced as part of the family planning organization NURHI in Nigeria, serve a dual purpose. They serve as job aids for service providers and as reminder materials for clients. They reinforce the ‘Know’ – what FP is, ‘Talk’ – about FP with your partner and ‘Go’ – to the nearest health facility to access the FP method that suits you.
