Hulu Beteina Mobile App – Instructional Leaflet

This mobile application is developed to support rural women and couples to better manage and track their health, mainly during pregnancy, through delivery and after birth. Designed for use on both smart and basic phones, the approach invokes a simple, easy to navigate format containing relevant, engaging, and educational content. Key features of the app include growth-monitoring tool, scheduling for ANC and immunization visit. It is available in three languages (Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna) and no internet connection required to transfer or use the application.

Gender Radio Spots

These are radio spots developed for the Communication for Health Campaign in Ethiopia.

They focus on:

  • Couple Communication – modelling healthy relationships and shared decision making through open communication – This spot is available in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrigna, Wolaitigna, Sidamigna
  • Male Engagement – enouraging meaningful male engagement in family health and child care. Thses spots are available in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrigna, Wolaitigna, Sidamigna
  • Sharing of Household Responsibilities – encouraging men to be more involved and share responsibilities in the household. These spots are available in Ahmaric, Afaan Oromo

These spots were broadcast on Ethiopia radio.

Erkab Radio Program Design Document

This is a guide for the Erkab radio program, part of the Ethiopia Communication for Health project, designed to be used by the producers of the program. This document was a result of a content development and drama design workshop.

The program addresses different health issues through a drama and reality components.

The primary audiences of the radio program are rural men and women who are either newly married, pregnant or have children under 5. The secondary audiences are traditional/religious

leaders, in-school youth, Health Extension Workers and the Women’s Development Army.

The objectives of the Radio Program were:

1. To improve knowledge, attitudes and practice of high impact health practices/behaviors among the identified priority audiences

2. To increase social support within households and communities for beneficial health practices

3. To support Women Development Armies (WDAs) and Health Extension Workers (HEWs) to effectively educate, motivate and counsel households and clients to practice healthy behaviors

4. To increase uptake and demand of selected services by the primary audiences

Social Mobilization Toolkit

This toolkit is developed for Health Education Workers to help them engage with key community actors such as fathers/men, religious leaders, schools, and agricultural sector in their health promotion efforts. It is a reference kit for initiating discussion on relevant health topics with and among the different sectors, community members, and influencers.
