Buddyz, Learn about Alcohol and Take Action

This guide for Soul Buddyz Clubs covers the issue of alcohol abuse and how to take action against it. The guide contains information and activities relating to the themes covered in the Soul Buddyz television drama so that messages are reinforcing.

Soul Buddyz is an entertainment education project that includes a television series as well as print material for grade school students and their parents. Soul Buddyz highlights the ability of children to jointly confront and manage problem situations in order to make a difference in their communities. Soul Buddyz addresses issues of child sexual abuse, disabilities, road safety alcohol abuse and its effect on children, and HIV and AIDS, as perceived by children. The Soul Buddyz Club is an innovative way of reaching children and helping them to take positive action in their own lives and communities.

Soul Buddyz Club is the platform where children are exposed to positive peer interaction, information about their health and rights, and fun and adventure to stimulate their growing minds. Materials include Soul Buddyz Club unit guides, posters, the club zone magazine and a parenting magazine. Soul Buddyz Clubs meet regularly to work through the materials supplied to them.

Circuncisao Medico: Tudo o que voce precisa saber [Medical Circumcision: Everything You Need to Know]

This pamphlet was produced as part of the Mozambique Male Circumcision project. It is directed at adult and young men, and explains what medical circumcision is, why it is important, how it can prevent HIV infection, what one can expect before, during, and after the procedure, and the risks associated with the procedure.

Clean Hands Count Campaign

These materials were created by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to promote handwashing.

The campaign aims to:

  • Improve healthcare provider adherence to CDC hand hygiene recommendations
  • Address the myths and misperceptions about hand hygiene
  • Empower patients to play a role in their care by asking or reminding healthcare providers to clean their hands

Included in the campaign are videos, posters, factsheets and brochures. There are also infographics, a digital press kit, a press release, and web buttons.

Communication for Healthy Living (CHL) Family Planning Pamphlet

The Communication for Healthy Living (CHL) project based in Egypt from 2003-2011 worked through a national working group to implement SBCC strategies that addressed family needs through a life stages approach, linking families and communities to local health information and services. The project was led by JHU∙CCP in partnership with the Egyptian Government. Through its affiliation with the global Health Communication Partnership (HCP), CHL provided communication support for healthy lifestyles and behavior change on a broad spectrum of health outcomes.

This pamphlet covers the various methods of family planning.

More than 1.28 million people were reached by CHL outreach. CCP also worked with CHL to build capacity for health communication among the public, nongovernmental organization (NGO) and private sectors in Egypt.

Alive & Thrive is an initiative in Vietnam aimed at improving infant and young child feeding by increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improving complementary feeding practices.

This booklet for mothers and caregivers of children under 2 focuses on the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life as the best investment for child growth and development. It focuses particularly on complementary feeding and explains how to introduce and prepare nutritious foods using different food groups, offers tips on how to avoid and deal with fussy eating, and answers questions frequently raised by mothers.

Dealing With Alcohol Safety: A Grade 7 Learner’s Book

This book is part of the Phuza Wize – Drink Safe, Live Safe campaign to encourage people to drink less alcohol, and so reduce alcohol-related violence.

The Phuza Wize – Drink Safe, Live Safe campaign aims to:

  1. Provide information about how alcohol affects our health and safety
  2. Raise awareness of what people who choose to drink can do to drink responsibly
  3. Work with the police, community police forums and other community groups to make alcohol-free zones around schools and other places in their neighborhood
  4. Encourage owners and managers of taverns, shebeens and bars to take action to make their establishments safer places for people to drink

The book includes information on the facts about alcohol, making choices about alcohol, how alcohol relates to violence, coping with a drinking problem, and making safer drinking places. Each topic is covered with basic information and facts, and there are activities to encourage discussion.
